Frequency Drives change
motor speed to accurately control exhaust air flow and save electricity
wasted pushing air past the damper. They �soft start� motors to full
speed in 10-15 seconds, greatly extending motor life. Their overload
shutdown monitors all three phases separately.
On both Spraybake manual and automatic exhaust damper systems, if the
exhaust is not cleaned regularly, the cabin will go very positive
causing the Belimo damper motor to be constantly powered, burning it
out. With a frequency drive, the exhaust damper and Belimo damper motor
are no longer needed.
Frequency drives can also convert single phase to three phase.
There are two kinds of drives: the cheaper, more common volts/hertz
type, and the vector type.
The volts/hertz type discharges power based on a sensor monitoring the
motor demand. They�re about 10% cheaper but give off increasingly
distorted power when used below 40% speed, causing motor heating and
likely will trip out below 20%. This drive should only be used for
exhaust boxes and prep stations.
The sensorless vector�s microprocessor exactly matches voltage and
amperage to frequency, giving full and precisely matched power down to
20% speed, and full power down to 1% for a few minutes. Vector types
last much longer and are far easier on motors used below 50%. This drive
is ideal for spray booth motors that, in bake, run at 15-20% speed.

Waterwash Intake and Exhaust Motors:
The OEM motor had custom 60" wire leads and is unavailable. New motors have a junction box too large for the fan housing. We provide a low profile junction box and 60" cord. We also provide 12 - grade 8, yellow-zinc flange bolts with nuts and washers, weatherproof wire nuts, and a cord connector.The OEM motor ran too hot. Our motor's narrow body allows twice as much air cooling. Our motor has an end-thrust bearing at the shaft end, needed for vertical mount motors. We also provide a Motor Replacement Guide.
